Modern US 270 wasn't commissioned until 1930 (you can read about its endpoints on this page). US 270 [I] was among the original routes of 1926. It branched off US 70 at Sparta TN. The photo below is looking north on Mayberry Street:

That's where US 270 ended at Bockman Way (US 70). From there, US 270 followed the path of what is now US 70-S, ending at US 41 in Murfreesboro:

That's looking west on Main Street. US 270 ended at the crossroad, which is Broad Street. The photo below is looking south on Broad, which at this point is southbound US 41/eastbound US 70-S:

Originally, to the left on Main Street was the west beginning of US 270. (It was so short-lived because it soon became a part of US 70-S. The next year, its number was recycled and applied to today's US 270. Later, the routing of US 70-S was changed to follow Mercury Boulevard, which bypasses the downtown area to the south.)
