The east end of US 44 is in Plymouth MA. The photo below was taken heading northeast on Samoset Street:
Long,
Oct. 2005
That sign is posted about a block shy of the highway's actual end, which is at Court Street (the stoplight ahead). That intersection (as well as the MA hwy. 3A signage) is shown more closely in the photo below:
Moraseski, 2000
You can see part of Plymouth Bay in the distance, and the Plymouth Rock area is straight ahead on Park Avenue. Traffic coming from that direction (southwest on Park) sees the east beginning of US 44 signed like this:
Karners,
Aug. 2010
That replaces an earlier sign, shown below:
Long,
Oct. 2005
Oddly, less direction is posted for traffic heading northwest on Court (MA 3A):
Karners,
Aug. 2010
If you're bright enough to know that US 44 is to the left, and you make that turn, then you'll be heading west on Samoset, and you'll see the first confirming assembly shortly:
Karners,
Aug. 2010
From there, the National Monument to the Forefathers is about two blocks to the right.
The west end of US 44 is in Kerhonkson NY, at its junction with US 209 (mis-signed as NY 209 in several places, as you'll see):
Roberson,
June 2006
The "End" sign visible in the distance is shown close-up below:
Blake, May 2011
Below we're heading north on US 209:
Roberson,
June 2006
The west beginning of US 44 is to the right (the blue sign is for the New York Thruway, or I-87). The shot below was taken from the opposite direction (west on southbound US 209):
